Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen of India (AIMIM) general secretary and former four-time legislator Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri passed away on Tuesday. He was 71 years old and had been ill for some time.
According to party sources, Mr. Quadri served the organization for several decades and worked closely with three generations of the Owaisi family. His association started with Abdul Wahed Owaisi, who was instrumental in reviving the party 67 years ago, and continued with former Hyderabad MP Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi as well as his sons Chandrayangutt, legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi.
Popularly known as “Pasha”, he first entered public office through the then Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, winning the Dabeerpura election in 1986 and serving as a corporator until 1991. In 2004, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly from the Charminar constituency. He did not run in the 2023 elections.
AIMIM workers described him as a party loyal and trusted lieutenant who was respected by the cadre. They remembered him as a down-to-earth individual who didn’t say anything.
