Mangalagiri rural police have taken a man into custody for allegedly sexually harassing a colleague at AIIMS Mangalagiri in Guntur district, officials said on Saturday.
Sub-inspector Chirumamilla Venkateswarlu said the accused, Nutakki Mohana Chary, a field officer, was taken into custody based on a complaint filed by a 35-year-old female colleague.
According to the police, the woman allegedly tried to commit suicide by ingesting an anti-mosquito liquid commonly used in households. She was taken to hospital for treatment and is now out of danger.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the accused should have harassed the woman both at the workplace and over the phone at her residence. He is also accused of stalking her for a period of time.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the allegations, the police added. Those in distress can contact the helpline on 100 or 112.
