AIADMK Rajya Sabha member C.Ve. Shanmugam on Tuesday (March 17, 2026) courted controversy after making a derogatory reference to a female actress during a protest organized by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Villupuram.
Mr Shanmugam addressed the protest while criticizing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s ‘Unga Kanava Sollunga’ scheme.
“While former president APJ Abdul Kalam encouraged students to dream, the chief minister went a step further and asked people to share their dreams,” he said before making a controversial remark in reference to dreams and the actress.
These remarks provoked sharp opposition from various political parties.
