To strengthen clinical surveillance and improve quality of care across dialysis centers under the state’s Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, an AI-based smart monitoring system has been implemented in seven centers across the state. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao launched the system at the KC General Hospital on Thursday.
Introduced by NephroPlus, the artificial intelligence platform integrates advanced monitoring and surveillance technologies into dialysis centers under the government’s PPP program with a focus on enhancing patient safety, clinical surveillance and standardized care.
Real time tracking
The system enables real-time monitoring of critical dialysis parameters, including blood pressure, fluid removal and electrolyte balance, allowing healthcare teams to closely monitor patients during treatment and respond quickly to any changes.
The platform monitors 28 key indicators such as adherence to dialysis protocols, clinical care, patient safety, bed availability, staff vigilance, emergency preparedness, infection control, hygiene, safety compliance and overall operational efficiency.
Digital governance
Officials said the system creates a layer of digital governance by replacing regular audits with round-the-clock monitoring driven by artificial intelligence. It also supports automated key performance indicator (KPI) tracking and data-driven clinical and operational decision-making, improving transparency and consistency in care delivery.
The platform operates at an accuracy level of 85% to 95%, with further improvements expected to increase its performance and predictive capabilities.
“Karnataka is committed to expanding access to dialysis services through the PPP model. The introduction of artificial intelligence monitoring systems further enhances this effort by improving clinical surveillance and increasing patient safety,” the Minister said.
“It is encouraging to see how innovation and partnership can work together to ensure that dialysis services delivered under the PPP program meet and even exceed private sector standards,” he added.
During the launch, there was a live demonstration of AI-powered dashboards that demonstrated real-time monitoring of dialysis procedures and quality indicators.
