Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol has refuted a foreign media report about the investigation into last year’s Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, saying that the investigation is still ongoing.
The Italian daily claimed that agencies investigating the accident blamed the pilots in their report.
“I want to inform you all that our investigative agencies are investigating the matter. Should we trust our own agencies or foreign? Our agencies are working on it,” Mr Mohol said in Sangli on Saturday (February 14, 2026).
“When the final report is ready, only then will it be justified to comment on it,” he added.
In one of India’s worst aviation accidents, a total of 260 people, including 241 passengers, died after an Air India Boeing 787-8 operating flight AI171 to London Gatwick crashed on 12 June 2025 shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad.
On Thursday (12 February 2026), the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said the probe was still ongoing and no final conclusions had been reached.
It said media reports suggesting the accident investigation had been completed were “incorrect and speculative”.
