Amid speculation of a mid-term change of chief minister in the state, Ahinda organizations in Mysuru have launched a letter campaign urging the Congress leadership to declare Mr Siddaramaiah as chief minister for a full five-year term.
Representatives of various Ahinda organizations launched the campaign by sending letters to Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in Mysuru on Wednesday, urging Congress leader and All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge to immediately step in and declare Mr. Siddaramaiah as Chief Minister for a full term, ending the prevailing leadership confusion.
The letter seeks to point out to Mr Gandhi that the Congress party’s massive victory in Karnataka was made possible by Mr Siddaramaiah’s leadership and the support of the communities representing Ahindu, short for Minorities, Backward Classes and Dalits, who voted for the party together.
These communities also want Mr. Gandhi to become the prime minister of the country, the paper said.
Although Mr. Siddaramaiah was unanimously elected MLA as leader of the Congress Legislature Party for a full five-year term, in recent years, the opposition parties – BJP and JD (S) – have been spreading misinformation and indulging in politics over the post of Chief Minister, creating confusion in the minds of the public. Unfortunately, several Congress leaders also echoed these views, the letter lamented.
While warning Mr. Gandhi that such internal dissensions could hinder the party’s growth, the letter sought to make it clear that Mr. Siddaramaiah’s removal as chief minister would not be tolerated by the Ahinda communities.
The letter sought time for a delegation of Ahinda leaders from Karnataka to meet him.
Signatories to the letter include Karnataka State Backward Classes Awareness Forum president and leader Ahinda KS Shivaramu, besides leaders of Kumbara community association, Madivala community, Uppara community, Dalit Mahasabha, Dalit Sangharsha Samithi and other leaders including Rajashekar, FM Kaleem and others.
