AHINDA organizations have decided to hold a mega convention in Mysuru on January 25 to vigorously push for Siddaramaiah to remain as Chief Minister for the remainder of the term.
Representatives of AHINDA organizations met in the city on December 24 under the leadership of KS Shivaram, president of the Karnataka State Backward Classes Awareness Forum and outlined a plan to mobilize a large number of people for the event.
The plans to hold an AHINDA convention in support of Mr Siddaramaiah comes amid continued speculation about a possible change of guard in the state, with reports of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar eyeing the coveted post.
However, Mr. Shivaram sought to make it clear that the convention was not directed against anyone. “Also, this is not a show of force. It was organized to clearly explain why Mr. Siddaramaiah is necessary for AHINDA sections and to discuss these issues in depth,” he said.
Responding to questions from certain sections of the media regarding the possibility of Mr. Siddaramaiah’s absence from the event, Mr. Shivaram dismissed the reports as purely speculative. “It is too early to comment on the matter,” he told The Hindu while refusing to rule out the possibility of Mr. Siddaramaiah attending the AHINDA convention.
Earlier, speaking at a preparatory meeting attended by representatives of various AHINDA organizations, Mr. Shivaram said that the implementation of the recently held social and educational survey was possible only under the leadership of Mr. Siddaramaiah, who became the voice of AHINDA sections in the state after former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs.
The president of the forum further added that the chief minister has stood as a strong barrier against the communal forces. “That is why communal elements and upper caste sections will conspire against him. Mr. Siddaramaiah represents the identity of AHINDA communities and we will not give him up under any circumstances,” said Mr. Shivaram.
He also said that Mr. Siddaramaiah was not only “lucky” to become the Chief Minister. “He is a leader with determination and ideology who has become Chief Minister through sheer hard work,” Mr. Shivaram pointed out, expressing confidence that the Congress high command will take an appropriate decision in this regard.
