Farmers from the Association of Protection of Farmers and Desiya thennindhiya Nadhigal Inaipp Vivasayigal Sangam on Thursday built a protest from the district collector and after protest near the district collector and after the protest near the district collector Collector in Uthamachozhapuram, farmers from the district collector in Uthamachozhapuram.
The 49.5 GBP project project, which carries out the water resources department in Uthamachozhapurama, is to prevent seawater from entering the river. The rally was led by S. Dhanapalan and P. Ayyakann from two farmers’ associations. The rally started in Vanchura, near the district, and went through Nagore before reaching the collector’s office in Nagapattinam.
Farmers from Uthamachozhapuram, Occkur, Vadakarai and nearby villages joined the rally, holding labels and increasing slogans that demand a rapid implementation of the regulatory body in its original location and for further protective work near Narimanam.
TVK Phase Protest
Meanwhile, members of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) organized a protest in Melavanchuh near Nagore, led by district President Sukumar.
They argued that the location of the regulator on Uthamachozhapuram would increase the intrusion of seawater, exhausted groundwater and caused fertile lands to infert in several villages.
