YSRCP MLC Indukuri Raghu Raju on Monday urged the state government to do justice to the farmers who had given 1,166 acres of land for the construction of the Jindal Alumina project more than two decades ago, alleging that the conglomerate has not fulfilled its promises.
Speaking to the media in Boddavara village, he claimed that promises such as transfer of shares and employment opportunities for the children of farmers who supported the government in land acquisition in 2002 and 2006 have not been fulfilled.
Mr. Raju said the land should be returned to the farmers who were getting only ₹2,000 per acre as the company failed to construct the Alumina project in the last two decades. Farmers have the right to seek compensation under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, he added.
He alleged that the government failed to implement the Andhra Pradesh High Court order which clearly directed officials to follow due process in providing justice to families displaced from the country.
“We have organized many agitations in Vizianagaram, Vijayawada and New Delhi over these issues. Now we are planning to approach the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes – New Delhi very soon as most of the farmers belonged to ST communities,” said Mr. Raju.
