Security curbs and mobile internet speed restrictions were lifted in Kashmir on Saturday (March 7, 2026), allowing normal life to resume after six days of unrest following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei on February 28. Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP) Jammu and Kashmir Nalin Prabhat has cracked down on terrorist and anti-national operations in the south. Cashmere.
Markets and business offices reopened in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk, which had turned into a major protest site against the United States and Israel on March 1. Concertina wires placed on roads and internal lanes in Srinagar, Budgam and Baramulla parts of the city were also removed, allowing smooth movement of vehicles on the roads.
Rallies marked Kashmir in the past six days, where hundreds of pro-Iranian protesters took to the streets.
Locals said internet speed, which was downgraded to 2G service, and prepaid mobile calls were also restored, bringing relief to them.
Meanwhile, the DGP reviewed the security environment, counter-terrorism operations and overall law and order situation in South Kashmir’s Pulwama, Awantipora and Shopian.
In Pulwama, the DGP directed police personnel to “maintain sustained pressure on anti-national elements”. A police spokesman said Mr Prabhat urged the police “to remain vigilant and ensure strict action against elements involved in illegal activities”.
In Shopian, the DGP reviewed the security situation and counter-terrorism measures. He directed the strengthening of counter-terrorism efforts, the security of minority communities and the maintenance of adequate security measures in tourist destinations. “Remain vigilant and continue continuous operations against terrorist elements and their support networks,” Mr. Prabhat said.
In Awantipora, the DGP emphasized the need to further intensify the fight against anti-national elements, drugs and crime, police said.
