After roasting the GT field, Shubman Gill leads by example with a stunning display for CSK

After being highly critical of Gujarat Titans’ fielding and even roasting them after their performance against KKR, Shubman Gill needed to speak up and lead by example. He had to show his players how it is done on the field and he did exactly that during the match against Chennai Super Kings.

There were two pieces of magic from Gill on the field. The first came in the seventh over when he produced a stunning pitch to run out Kartik Sharma, who looked set to be a terror for the home side in Ahmedabad.

Then Gill produced the catch of this year’s contender with a diving effort to send the marauding Shivam Dube back to the pavilion. The match eventually ended with GT winning by 89 runs.

Gill was excited to see his team become more alert on the field and wanted the trend to continue in the playoffs.

“The catching was a lot better. I hope we continue to do that,” Gill said at the postgame presentation.

It was an evening when fans mainly cheered for ČSK rather than the home team. After his catch of Dube, Gill decided to silence a section of the fans in an emotional moment for the GT skipper.

When asked about the celebration, Gill said in a game like that, the emotion has always been with him.

“When you play a game with that kind of emotion, that kind of thing can happen,” Gill said.

Gill was one of the heroes with the bat for GT as he scored 64 off 37 balls as the hosts scored 229 runs in the first innings. The Gujarat captain has been happy with his performances with the bat so far, scoring 616 runs from 13 matches.

So it was no surprise that he had an angry reaction when he came out, which he explained by looking at what he could have done differently in the end.

“Very happy with how I’m shooting. When you get out there you always think about what you could have done differently, but overall I’m happy with how I’m going,” Gill said.

GT is now waiting for the result of the RCB vs SRH match to see if they will play Qualifier 1 or Eliminator once the playoffs begin.
