The Indian Olympic bronze medalist in the female box, Lovina Borgohain, expressed her frustrations of her lack of proper training and exposure to better opportunities after the defeat in the opening round of the Women’s Boxing Championship. 27-year-old from Assam, who returned to an international event after more than a year, suffered a comprehensive defeat 0-5 in Turkey Busra Isillar in 75 kg 16 on Saturday 6 September.
When Lovina was after her departure, she admitted that the defeat was painful, but pointed out a deeper problem. “After one year I entered my first international competition. I was lost in the first fight that it hurts. I never require luxury, I only ask for good training,” she wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
The boxer contrasted with the preparations she had before the Tokyo Olympics – where she won bronze – with limited support before Paris 2024. “We had proper international camps and sparring partners before Tokyo. “Without good sparring partners, how can I constantly improve? OlympicsI stood alone. ”
After Paris, the Indian Box recorded a reduced international participation with Boxing Federation India Skipping several major tournaments. While the male team performed in two world boxing cups, women’s boxers received only one international trip. Lovlina also faced failures at home level after the Assam State unit failed to build a team on delayed nationals for the Federation infighting and forced it to rely on home events to re -join the national camp.
Lovlina explained that she did not criticize her current coaches or teammates, praised their support, but insisted that its system gaps were hampered by its growth. “It always takes a little more time to learn something new,” she said, and she also remembered her earlier requests for her personal coach in the camps and the opportunity to practice in Europe that were rejected.
Despite the failures, Assam Boxer remains intended. “After giving my country for my country, it is right to walk with my head down? No matter what – I promise, I get up again. I will fight in any situation,” she concluded.
