Ferry service (also known as punt) has been resumed across the Godavari River between Narsapuram in West Godavari district and Sakhinetipalli Revu in Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema on Monday, a day after operations were halted when a lone punt got stuck in the middle of the river due to a technical problem.
A major mishap was averted after the punt driver, locally known as Sarangi, raised an alarm immediately after noticing a technical problem in the engine. There were about 80 passengers on board the punt when it stopped while crossing the Godavari River from Narasapuram to Sakhinetipalli Revu.
Narsapuram Circle Inspector B. Yadagiri told The Hindu: “The punt was stuck in the river since 11 am on Sunday. However, it was brought back to the Narsapuram bank where it was repaired and operations resumed on Monday.”
The private operator who won the bid runs the barge across the river daily, enabling thousands of locals to cross the Godavari river for their daily needs.
