Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has been fined 15 per cent for the match after violating the ICC Code of Conduct during the T20 World Cup 2026 Group D match against South Africa held in Ahmedabad.

WHAT WAS NABI DOING?

The incident took place at the start of the 14th over of Afghanistan’s inningswhen Nabi was involved in a lengthy argument with the umpires over the armband worn by South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi. As a result, Nabi was found to have breached Article 2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct regarding disobeying the referee’s instructions.

The charges were formally leveled by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, with Nitin Menon serving as the third umpire and KN Ananthapadmanabhan as the fourth umpire. This is classified as a Level 1 offense under the ICC Code of Conduct, which carries a range of penalties including reprimands, fines of up to 50 per cent of match fees and one or two demerit points.

“In addition, one demerit point was added to Nabi’s disciplinary record, for which this was the first offense in 24 months,” the ICC said in a statement.

One demerit point was added to Nabi’s disciplinary record following an assessment by the match referees. This is Nabi’s first such offense in the last 24 months. ICC regulations state that the accumulation of forfeit points over a two-year period may result in further sanctions, including possible suspensions.
