In the second set, Navone had a chance to break, but Sinner showed the nerves of steel to keep 2-2 after holding. Later in the set, Sinner earned his second turning point to go 4-3 up. From there he did not look back and walked around the finish line.
“Amazing feeling. I’ve been waiting for a long time. I’m very glad to be back. I said in Italian it was very difficult to have the right feedback when you have no matches. But that’s exactly what I need,” Sinner said in an interview with the court after the match.
“The best practice is the match itself. Happy of it happy. Happy from today’s victory. It was very difficult,” Sinner added.
Sinner lost his opponent on the second, won 68 percent of points (17 out of 25) from them. He made 24 unforced errors, but coped with 21 winners, 11 more than Navone.
In round 32, Sinner locks the horns with Jeserer de Jong from the Netherlands, defeated by the Spanish Alejandro Davidovic Fokina 6-0, 6-2.
