Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan silenced rumors and confirmed his second marriage, just 10 months after his first marriagein a candid social media post that combines personal revelation with a request for privacy. Khan, a spinner, plays for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Rumors of the T20 captain’s second marriage started after photos and videos from a Rashid Khan Charity Foundation event in the Netherlands showed him sitting next to a woman in traditional Afghan clothing.
He tied the knot for the second time on August 2, just 10 months after his first wedding in October 2024. His three brothers – Amir Khalil, Zakiullah and Raza Khan – also tied the knot on October 3 in Kabul.
The news came with a social media post from the spinner, in which he wrote:
“On August 2, 2025, I began a new and meaningful chapter in my life. I had my nikkah done and married a woman who embodies the love, peace and partnership I’ve always hoped for. I recently took my wife to a charity event and it’s unfortunate to see assumptions made from something so simple.
The truth is straightforward: she is my wife and we stand together and have nothing to hide. To everyone who has shown kindness, support and understanding, thank you.”
Rashid has not shared any details about his wife, who also seems to prefer to stay out of the public eye.
CRICKETER RASHID KHAN’S FIRST WIFE IS HIS MOTHER’S SISTER
Rashid Khan’s first marriage took place last year with his maternal cousin. His first marriage was attended by many of his national team teammates. Mohammad Nabi, Naseeb Khan, Azmatullah Omarzai and Mujeeb Ur Rehman were among those who attended his wedding in 2024.
His first wedding, a grand affair mixing family tradition and celebrity, drew widespread congratulations from the cricketing world, but the second drew a more measured response as Khan prioritized the comfort of his new partner.
Rashid captained the Afghanistan cricket team for all three formats in 2019. His efforts, both as a leader and as a player, raised Afghanistan’s stature in international cricket.
Rashid is the leading wicket-taker in T20Is, having taken 182 wickets in 108 matches at an average of 13.69.
Under his leadership, Afghanistan made it to the semi-finals of last year’s T20 World Cup.
Rashid recently launched the Rashid Khan Foundation to support education, healthcare and clean water projects for vulnerable Afghan families.
While many on social media criticized Rashid Khan for his second marriage, he also found defenders.
“I am against Rashid Khan for his alliance with the Taliban, and that alone is enough to criticize. But dragging his personal life is the lowest sign of personal character. He should not have to explain if someone is his wife or anything else. It’s nobody’s business,” human rights lawyer Natiq Malikzada wrote on X.
