
The Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) and advanced nuclear systems play a vital role in achieving long-term energy security and sustainable development, said B. Venkatraman, Homi Sethna Chairman, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), and former Director, Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam.
On Monday (May 11, 2026), he addressed a program organized by VIT-AP University in collaboration with Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA) on the occasion of National Technology Day-2026 at the university premises.
National Technology Day is celebrated in India to commemorate the historic Pokhran nuclear tests of 1998, which marked a defining moment in India’s scientific and technological journey.
Mr. Venkatraman highlighted how indigenous nuclear technologies can significantly contribute to India’s vision of energy independence and environmental sustainability.
Later, P. Arulmozhivarman, Vice-Chancellor of VIT-AP University said that this day reminds us that India’s greatest strength lies in its scientific spirit, innovation ecosystem and commitment to self-reliance.
Ramesh Srikonda, Principal, School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, Vijnana Bharati President AP Kompella S. Sastry and others were present.
