Adilabad police have arrested a seven-member gang of fraudsters for defrauding 26 gullible persons of Rs 1.03 crore on the pretext of finding gold treasures.
All seven members of the gang, including its leader, have been arrested, Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan said.
A gang led by Darshanala Rajkumar (23), a fake ‘babe’ from Pippalkoti village, allegedly duped several gullible persons in the name of finding gold treasures in Bheempur, Neradigonda, Boath and various other mandals in the district in the last few months.
The gang’s modus operandi was to extort money from gullible victims with false promises to banish their troubles and find hidden gold treasures.
The gang was involved in as many as 12 cases reported under various police station limits in the district.
The police recovered a car, a bike, seven mobile phones and clay pots meant to store the fake gold coins used in the crime.
