Adilabad airport project to be fast-tracked, says Kishan Reddy

The Center has decided to expedite the development of the Joint User Airport (JUA) at Adilabad to boost regional air connectivity in North Telangana.

Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy said he held a review meeting with Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on the progress of the Adilabad Airport project in Delhi on Saturday.

All the three ministries and the Telangana government will appoint a nodal officer by next week to ensure coordinated implementation of the project in mission mode, Mr. Reddy said in a statement.

The meeting also decided to expedite the preparation of detailed project report (DPR) and master plan for the proposed JUA, Mr. Reddy said.

Mr. Singh assured the gathering that the Ministry of Defense is ready to extend full cooperation for the development of JUA in Adilabad. Mr Kishan Reddy said he highlighted the strategic importance of Adilabad, the need for an air force station and the importance of improving regional connectivity in the area.

Officials from the ministries of defense and civil aviation inspected the proposed airport site on 17 April 2026 as part of earlier discussions involving the Center and the Telangana government. The inspection found the need for a runway with a length of 2.75 km.

The state government has also decided to acquire an additional 1,500 acres of land, in addition to the 369.45 acres already available to the Indian Air Force. Proposed facilities include training aircraft infrastructure, parking for visiting aircraft, weather shelters, aircraft hangars, operations complex, training facilities and maintenance infrastructure.
