ADGP Ajithkumar’s suspension extended by 120 days

The Kerala government has extended the suspension of Additional Director General of Police MR Ajithkumar by another 120 days in connection with alleged police atrocities during the Nava Kerala Sadas program against Youth Congress workers, officials said on Saturday.

Mr. Ajithkumar, a 1995-batch IPS officer, was suspended on July 24 based on the findings of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe a case registered at the Alappuzha South police station regarding alleged police atrocities during the 2023 Nava Kerala Sadas programme.

The Suspension Review Committee reviewed his case on September 15 and found no grounds to lift the suspension at this time. She recommended extending the suspension for another 120 days.

The government has accepted the committee’s recommendations, officials said.

Mr. Ajithkumar was suspended pending disciplinary proceedings for allegedly interfering in the investigation into the attack on Youth Congress workers during the Nava Kerala Sadas outreach program conducted by the then Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Alappuzha on 15 December 2023.

The suspension order followed an investigation by the SIT set up after the UDF government came to power.

The team found that Mr. Ajithkumar had allegedly intervened and protected police personnel deployed as security officers for the then Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who was accused of assaulting Youth Congress workers.
