Actress Nana Patekar passed away at the age of 75

Veteran actor Nana Patekar died at his residence in Goa during the early hours of Thursday (October 8, 2026) after suffering a cardiac arrest, a Goa doctor suggested.
Mr. Patekar, 75, was taken to a private hospital after he was found unconscious in his apartment in Dona Paula near Goa’s Panaji.
Dr. Shekhar Salkar, chief of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, said, “When the medical team was called to the home, he was unresponsive. The team found him unconscious and performed CPR for nearly 45 minutes to 1 hour. He was declared brought dead at 5.20 am.”
In this connection, a medico-legal case is registered and an autopsy will be performed, he added.
According to the information given to the doctors at the hospital by Mr. Patekar’s doctor, the actor informed him around 3:30 in the morning that he was not feeling well. “The friend saw the message around 4 am and rushed to the apartment of Patekar, who lived with the caretaker,” said Dr. Salkar.

The body has been sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, where an autopsy will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death, said Dr. Salkar.
Expressing his condolences, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, “Shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the demise of veteran actor Nan Patekarji. His remarkable journey across theatre, Hindi and Marathi cinema has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema with his powerful performances and distinctive artistry.”
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also recalled him calling him a great soul and said, “The work he did in the rural areas of Maharashtra in water conservation and watershed management through the ‘Naam Foundation’ is significant. The helping hand he extended to the families of farmers who committed suicide became a pillar of support for many families. Nana was not only an excellent artist-actor but also a sensitive person to the soul of the deceased.”

His co-star Prakash Raj cherished the moments spent with Mr. Patekar and said, “I miss you my dear Nana ji.. He will cherish the moments spent..the conversations..the arguments..the food you cooked..the knowledge you shared.thank you for coming on my life journey.”
Mr. Patekar has won three National Film Awards, several Filmfare Awards, Maharashtra State Film Award and Filmfare Awards Marathi. He also received the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian award.
Congress leader Harshwardhan Sapkal also paid tribute saying, “He was a sensitive personality characterized by excellent acting and had social awareness and a touch of humanity, Nana Patekar will forever remain in our memories. His passing away has caused a great loss in the field of art and society.”
