Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), Kottayam, found herself in the center of controversy after a group of postgraduate and research students from the Environmental Science School began to strike non -sagging in the appointment of the associate professor.
The university, acting on the announcement issued on October 3, 2023, conducted interviews and selected Nibu Simona, who took over the allegations on 27 March. However, the appointment launched protests, and the students claimed that the vice -chairman favored his close associate.
In a formal complaint about the Governor, who is the Chancellor of the University, students claimed that the university had issued a correndum to the original notice of appointment by adding science on the subject of life. This was done to suit Mr. Simon, who holds MSC in biotechnology and a doctorate in biochemistry.
The students also claimed that the list of interviews was published only the day after Mr. Simon joined the university and raised questions about procedural justice. They claimed that they lacked the minimum pedagogical experience ordered by the University Grant Commission for the appointment of the associate professor.
“According to UGC 2018 regulations, the candidate must have at least eight years of experience with pedagogical practice equivalent to the professional assistant to be eligible for the attitude of the associate professors, Dr. Simon does not fulfill this criterion.
The complaint is also accused by the vice -chairman of CT Aravindakumara for violating UGC standards in the constitution of the exclusion of the Dean of Environmental Sciences and the assignment of disproportionate brands in the interview to promote Mr. Simon to the highest position.

Aravindakumar dismissed the accusation and claimed that the science of the environment is an interdisciplinary domain. “UGC regulations clearly allow appointment from relevant, related or allied subjects. The procedure has been released after retirement of a professor who was a biotechnologist,” said Aravindakum Hindu professor.
He said that the interview was conducted by a council composed of top scientists from all over the country. Regarding the matter of pedagogical experience, professor Aravindakumar explained that UGC instructions are also considering research experiences together with teaching in the evaluation.
