Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced the feature for the meta-owned Facebook, Instagram and Threads platforms, which will replace the traditional fact-checking team. Threads recently introduced a new feature that allows users to share photos and videos of other users on the app without citing the original post. Recently, Weibo’s app shows that it is testing planned posting features.
Community notes function found on the thread
According to a threaded post by developer Alessandro Paluzzi (@Alex193a), some iOS users can use the community annotation feature, and the feature is anonymous. Zuckerberg had previously claimed that the feature would replace the company’s existing fact-checking program starting in the United States. When this feature will be available for the timetable of all users on the platform.
In the accompanying images supporting the article, the company claims that the community notes feature allows people to mislead content or provide further context from different perspectives. If the post appears inaccurate or confusing, users can write notes. They can choose to provide context, explanations or their own insights. The company added that if the score is useful, the notes may be issued.
Zuckerberg claimed in a video message last week that “too many mistakes and censorship” and it’s time to “get back to the roots of our surrounding free expression.” Speaking about the 2024 U.S. presidential election, he said it felt like a “cultural turning point, giving a priority to speeches again.”
Zuckerberg added that Mehta will also stop proactively scanning for hate speech and remove “restrictions on topics like immigration and gender that lose contact with mainstream discourse” and answer such posts only to user reports. It will focus the automation system on eliminating “highly violated” situations such as terrorism, child exploitation, scams and drugs.
