
India’s ornamental fisheries sector has huge untapped potential and can become a global leader with improved infrastructure, robust supply chains and sustainable practices, experts pointed out at the International Conference on Sustainable Ornamental Fisheries – The Way Forward held in Kochi.
The conference was opened by DV Swamy, former chairman of the Marine Products Export Development Authority.
Mini Sekharan, Director, School of Industrial Fisheries, Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), presided.
M. Harikrishnan, Principal Professor, Cusat; B. Madhusoodana Kurup, former Vice-Chancellor of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences; Sagar Mehra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying; and Jonathan Poh, Secretary General of Ornamental Fish International, Singapore.
A. Biju Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Kufos, delivered the keynote address.
