N. Bala Krishna Varma and Pola Nagaraju
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a mandal inspector attached to the Tahsildar’s office in Nirmal mandal for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹7,500 for an official favor related to land delimitation.
The accused officer, identified as N. Bala Krishna Varma, was jailed by Adilabad Range ACB after he demanded bribe for carrying out land demarcation and handing over the panchanama pertaining to the complainant’s father-in-law. The bribe was received through a private individual identified as Pola Nagaraju, who was acting as an assistant to a government official.
The ACB said the inspector initially demanded ₹15,000 and accepted ₹5,000 as part payment, later insisting on the remaining ₹10,000. On the request of the complainant, the amount was reduced to ₹7,500. The tainted cash was recovered from the possession of a private individual at the inspector’s request.
Both the inspector and the private have been arrested and will be produced before a special court for SPE and ACB cases in Karimnagar. Further investigation is underway.
The ACB reiterated its appeal to the public to report any demand for bribe by civil servants by calling the toll-free number 1064 and ensure that the identity of the complainants is kept confidential.
