ACB charges HMDA chief engineer in disproportionate assets case, reveals assets worth ₹9.24 crore

The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday registered a case of disproportionate assets against Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Chief Engineer B. Ravinder and recovered assets worth about ₹9.24 crore during simultaneous searches at his residence, office and nine other places associated with his relatives, associates and benamidar.

According to the ACB, documents related to multiple properties were found during the searches. These include five open plots in Kondakal, Kistapur and Pasamail villages worth ₹ 38.9 lakh, four residential flats in Narsingi and Nanakramguda worth ₹ 2.07 crore, four acres of agricultural land in Gudur village in Kothur mandal worth ₹ 6 lakh, a semi in Sharpokila man3 in Sharpokyard at M300ila square in M. ₹ 1.34 crore and G+4 commercial building at Masjid Banda, Kondapur, worth ₹ 3 crore. The agency said the market value of these properties is expected to be significantly higher than their officially declared value.

Officials also seized ₹3.82 crore in cash, bank balances of around ₹45.06 crore, gold ornaments weighing about 1.44 kg worth ₹36.7 crore and silver ornaments weighing about 12.5 kg worth ₹10 crore. Household items worth ₹17.24 crore, electronic equipment worth ₹9.32 crore and four vehicles with a combined value of ₹1.16 crore were also identified during the searches.

The ACB said the total value of the assets identified so far is estimated at ₹ 9.24 crore and that verification of other assets is underway.

The case was registered according to § 13 paragraph 1 letter b) as amended by Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018. The accused official was produced before the Special Court for SPE and ACB in Hyderabad for judicial remand. Further investigation is underway.
