ABVP organizes student rally in Lucknow, urges students to raise voice to protect democracy
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), organized a student rally in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday (October 18, 2026) as part of its nationwide appeal ‘Stop Anarchy, Embrace Democracy’.
ABVP members took part in a rally from Lucknow University to Gandhi Chowk in Hazratganj against what they called attempts to weaken democracy and democratic institutions.
“India’s democracy rests on public trust, suffrage and independence of constitutional institutions. The power to change governments in the country rests solely with the people who vote and replace governments with their votes. Political dissent is welcome in a democracy, but attempts to change the government through mob pressure, anarchy or attacks on constitutional institutions are unacceptable,” said AB VP, Abhay Pratah.
“If there are irregularities in the election process, evidence must be produced and constitutional and legal procedures must be followed. Questioning the credibility of institutions like the Election Commission and the Supreme Court for political gain or trying to bring them under pressure is against the democratic order. Those who think that even India may witness a change of government through anarchy inspired by the developments in Bangladesh and Nepal itself must understand that the future of India and Nepal must be understood as a strong government of India and Nepal.” he said.
Mr. Singh added that ABVP’s success in the Delhi, Uttarakhand, Kerala and Odisha university student union elections shows that students believe in the democratic process and stand behind the “Nation First” ideology.
“The large participation of students in the rally in Lucknow reflects their commitment to democratic values and dignity of constitutional institutions. ABVP calls upon the youth of the country to remain vigilant in protecting the dignity of constitutional institutions, democratic values and national interests and to oppose the politics of anarchy and mobocracy through democratic means,” he said.
