Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) officers on Wednesday arrested Venkiteswara Baba, a former agriculture official from Agali in Attappady, who was on the run for years after being convicted in a corruption case.
In 2006, Babu allegedly embezzled funds intended to compensate farmers for crop losses caused by natural disasters. The Palakkad Vigilance Unit filed a case against him and the Thrissur Vigilance Court found him guilty in 2016, sentencing him to three years in prison and imposing a fine of ₹10,000.
Although he challenged the verdict in the High Court, his appeal was dismissed and he was ordered to serve his sentence. Babu has been evading the authorities ever since.
He will now be produced before the Vigilance Court in Thrissur.
