Approximately 700 street headlamps along the almost 10 kilometer section from Cheraranalloor Junction to Bolghatty Junction to a 17 km long container terminal road (NH 966 A) remains charged due to power problems.
Of the more than 1,000 street headlamps installed, you were charged with the Cheralloor Junction and Kalamassery a week ago. According to the Ceral Electric Council (KSEB), the charging of the entire fleet of street lights requires around six transformers, only two of which are functional. The remaining lights were not charged because the existing transformers are already overloaded.
Although the supplier claimed that the application had been submitted, the KSEB sources said that no formal request has been received yet to install new transformers. “Only then can we decide on factors such as the location of transformers. The number of street headlights that the transformer can support depends on aspects such as the power input of the lights,” they added.
The container terminal road has been without street headlights since its foundation in 2015. After many and back between the local bodies that the roads are passing, street headlights were finally installed under the ongoing 130 Crore reconstruction project.
“Initially, the Indian National Highway Office approached us and asked us to trigger the Energy Act on street headlights that we refused. There were also suggestions that the local authorities concerned were installing street headlights on the sections of their borders,”
The absence of street headlights was one of the main reasons for countless accidents – including fatal – which witnessed the container road since its commissioning. According to police sources, Mulavukad also provides coverage for waste storage and alleged anti -social activities.
Anil Plavians, General Secretary of the Federation of the Apex Council Association on Goshree (Frag), said that basic devices such as street headlights were to be installed before the tolls for the use of the road. He added that such basic amenities have been delayed for more than ten years and quoted mere technical lives.
