Abhishek Sharma’s No.1 ranking in T20Is is under threat after Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan climbed to No.2 in the latest ICC batting rankings. Abhishek currently has 874 rating points while Farhan is just 26 points behind with 848, the highest rating of his career so far.
Last July, Abhishek dethroned Travis Head to become the No. 1 T20I batsman for the first time. During the Asia Cup in UAE, he made history by scoring a career-high 931 rating points, the highest ever by any batsman in T20Is, surpassing Dawid Malan’s 919 points.
However, his performances in the ongoing T20 World Cup have been far from convincing. In six matches, Abhishek has scored just 80 runs at an average of 13.33 and a strike rate of 131.14. He started the tournament with three consecutive ducks and also missed the match against Namibia due to a stomach ailment.
He showed signs of returning to form with a brisk 55 off 30 balls against Zimbabwe at the Wankhede Stadium, but he failed to score in the following match against the West Indies. The left-hander will now aim to make a big contribution when India take on England in the semi-finals on Thursday, March 5 in Mumbai.

THE IMPRESSIVE RUN OF SAHIBZAD FARHANA
Farhan enjoyed a dream run in the T20 World Cup even as Pakistan bowed out before the semi-finals. Despite the team’s inconsistent campaign, he was in excellent form, scoring 383 runs in six innings at an average of 76.60 and a strike rate of 160.25. During Pakistan’s Super 8 match against Sri Lanka, Farhan broke Virat Kohli’s record most runs in a single edition of the tournament.
He also became the first batsman to score multiple centuries in a single edition of the World Cup when he reached three figures against Namibia and Sri Lanka. Apart from Suryakumar Yadav’s duck against India where he was dismissed by Hardik Pandya, Farhan looked completely in control throughout the tournament.
In 46 T20Is so far, Farhan has amassed 1,305 runs at an average of 30.34 and a strike rate of 136.64, including two centuries and 10 half-centuries.
