Abhishek Sharma is not technically sound, he only hits the ball: Ex-Pak cricketer

February 13, 2026

Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Amir claimed that Abhishek Sharma is nothing but a slogger and can be dismissed with simple plans. Speaking on a Pakistan TV show ahead of the marquee ICC Men’s T20 World Cup clash, Amir said Abhishek lacked consistency and was not technically sound.

Amir’s inflammatory comments come just days before India’s group stage match against Pakistan on February 15. Abhishek, who is currently ill, is in danger of missing the match. He entered the T20 World Cup as the best T20I batsman in the world thanks to some breathtaking performances over the last couple of years.

However, his total of 1,297 runs at a strike of 200 clearly did not impress Amir. The former left-arm pacer even outlined a plan to dismiss Abhishek in the match to be played in Colombo.

“Abhishek Sharma is a midget. He wants to bat every ball. If he connects, he connects – otherwise the chances of failure are high. He bats in eight innings and scores in one. The rest he gets 10, 15, 20, 0. He just stands and thrashes. He is not a technically sound batsman,” said Amir.

“Abhishek plays high-risk cricket. Keep deep cover and bowl to his body to catch him. Slower deliveries are another thing,” he added.

Abhishek himself has spoken earlier about how fast bowlers often rely on slower balls against him. However, he said he tries to stay ahead by training against similar variants he is expected to face in matches.

“I know the bowlers won’t give me much pace in the World Cup,” Abhishek said during India’s T20I series against the New Zealand national cricket team in the build-up to the 2026 T20 World Cup. “I realized that in the last few matches, so I’ve been preparing for it. If you want to play this kind of cricket, you have to keep preparing.”
