After seven Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MPs, six of them from Punjab, quit the party on Friday to “merge” with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal said the BJP has once again betrayed the people of Punjab. In a post on X, he said, “BJP has betrayed Punjab again.” The AAP said the BJP had launched “Operation Lotus” to stop the pro-people work being done by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government in Punjab.
Speaking at a press conference in Chandigarh, Mr Mann said: “The people of Punjab will hold accountable those who betray the state and have made it clear that such maneuvers cannot secure political victories in a democracy where the people of Punjab remain sovereign.”
