Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Converys Arvind Kejriwal (3 July 2025) said his party had ended its connection with Congress and accused her of indirect assistance by the ruling Bharatiya Janata (BJP) in Gujarat.
Mr. Kejriwal, who addressed the media in Ahmedabad, said the Indian developmental inclusive inclusive alliance (India)) was created exclusively for Lok Sabha elections in 2024 and no longer binds AAP to Congress.
“AAP will independently attack the elections to the gathering in Gujarat 2027 and win. We will provide people with a real alternative to BJP and congress,” said former main minister Delhi.
Referring to the recent elections of the Visavadar in the Junagad district, Mr. Kejriwal challenged the intention of congress. “We have no alliance with Congress. If he was there, why did they build a candidate in Visavadar during the Bypoll? BJP sent them to reduce our voices. When they failed, BJP even cursed them,” he noted.
The candidate AAP GOPAL Italia won the Visavadar chair and defeated Kirit Patel BJP by more than 17,000 votes. Congress candidate Nitin Ranpariya completed a third with 5,501 votes.
Mr. Kejriwal claimed that the continuous BJP government in Gujarat led to dissatisfaction across several parts of society, including farmers, youth and middle class. “Despite increasing unemployment and more than half of the government’s positions that lie, employment is largely offered by a contractual basis,” he said.
He added that the congress “failed as the opposition” and accused the party of negotiations in accordance with BJP. “People often say they want to defeat BJP, but they don’t know who to vote for. Everyone knows that the congress is in the BJP pocket,” he said.
Mr. Kejriwal, who projected AAP as a trusted alternative, called the Visavarian result “a turning point in Gujaratian politics”. “People started putting their hopes into AAP,” he said.
He also announced the start of the Gujarat campaign Jodo Abhiyan, two and a half years to strengthen support before the 2027 elections. The campaign will include reach from door to door and citizens will be encouraged to join AAP through a missed call. “We are a youth party. I invite young gujaratis who wants the state to join us without corruption,” he said.
BJP currently holds 162 seats in the 182-member gujarat assembly. Congress has 12 while AAP holds five. The remaining chairs are occupied by Samajwadi and independent legislators.
