Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has reportedly received a threat from individuals who claim to be linked to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, accusing him of promoting “love jihad”, with the Mumbai police probing the authenticity of the social media post and voice memos, officials said on Saturday (18 Jul 2026).

City Police Commissioner Deven Bharti said police are verifying the authenticity of the social media post and voice notes.

“We are looking into the veracity of the social media post and voice clip,” Mr. Bharti added.

So far, neither Mr. Khan nor his representatives have filed a formal complaint about the alleged threat.

The alleged threat was issued through a social media post and accompanying voice clip allegedly shared by two men who identified themselves as Arzu Bishnoi and Tyson Bishnoi. They described themselves as associates of Lawrence Bishnoie, a police official said, referring to the viral clip.

They accused Mr Khan of promoting “love jihad”, an allegation linked to the actor’s recent third marriage to Gauri Spratt, and warned that those found to be encouraging such behavior would face consequences.

The term “love jihad” is used by right-wing groups to allege a conspiracy by Muslim men to lure Hindu women into relationships and marriages in order to convert them to Islam.

The voice note also referred to the recent case of a 13-year-old girl in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district who was allegedly kidnapped, trafficked and sexually assaulted, while warning political leaders not to protect any of the accused.

The threat claims have not been independently verified.

Mr. Bishnoi and his syndicate have reportedly been targeting actor Salman Khan for years. The conflict, led by a 1998 blackbuck poaching case in Rajasthan, escalated into a 2024 shooting at Mr Khan’s Mumbai residence, constant death threats and international accusations.

Recently, the US accused Lawrence Bishnoi and his aide Satinderjeet Singh alias Goldy Brar of ordering the assassination of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

Earlier this year, at least five rounds were fired at the first floor of filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s nine-storey house in Juhu, Mumbai.

The Mumbai police filed a 1,624-page chargesheet against 17 accused in a special MCOCA court in April. While 15 persons were arrested in the firing case, Shubham Lonkar and Arzoo Bishnoi, part of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, were shown as wanted accused. The pair claimed responsibility for the incident through a social media post, police said.
