The updated Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Aadhaar app allows users to change their linked mobile number from home without visiting an Aadhaar enrollment centre.
The measure aims to reduce the need to physically visit an Aadhaar enrollment center and is a big relief for senior citizens and those with reduced access (mobility issues, living far from the nearest office, etc.).
UIDAI makes registration mandatory for entities – here’s why
Meanwhile, the UIDAI this month also approved a new rule that will require entities to register with them to use Aadhaar to verify the identity of customers, CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar told PTI.
In particular, this includes entities such as event venues and hotels that collect Aadhaar data from customers and store it in physical form. According to the report, the decision will deter such entities from misusing the data.
