A young man drives a car with a helmet in Athani

A young businessman from Athani drove his car with a helmet on Saturday (September 12) to protest the police for issuing him a traffic fine for riding a quad bike without a helmet.

Subhash Bojane posted the video of his act on his social media.

He said he was asked to pay a fine of ₹500 for allegedly not wearing a helmet while driving a car.

An AI-powered camera spotted a car passing Ambedkar Circle in Athani a few days ago. The owner subsequently received a WhatsApp notification to impose a fine of ₹500 for the traffic offence. The notice stated “No helmet” as the reason. Mr. Bojan’s post led to an online debate about how AI cameras work.

Police officers told reporters in Athanasius on Sunday (13 September) that such notifications were generated due to technical glitches in the cameras.
