A woman’s hand was partially amputated in an attack by her uncle in Kilimanoor in the district after an argument broke out after she parked her scooter in front of his house on Friday.

The victim has been identified as Sindhu (34) from Ponganad. The accused, her uncle Manikuttan, who is also her neighbor, is in hiding. The police have intensified their search to catch him.

According to the police, the incident took place when Sindhu was returning home after dropping her child at nursery school. Shortly after, her uncle got into an argument over her parking her two-wheeler in front of his house. He later attacked her with a machete, causing serious injuries to her hand.

Sindhu managed to escape and was running to a nearby house for her life. Her neighbors and family members rushed her to a private hospital in Kilimanoor from where she was referred to Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital where she underwent an emergency surgery.

Official sources attributed the incident to a long-standing dispute between the accused and the woman. Manikuttan allegedly harassed Sindhu on several occasions, including vandalizing her vehicle and intimidation. The attack is considered the result of personal enmity.
