A woman from Ukkada village in Belagavi district said her husband poisoned their 15-day-old daughter.
Sheelabai told the police that her husband Bheemaraya had come to visit her at her mother’s house on Tuesday.
Her daughter Priyanka died within minutes of him leaving, she said.
Sheelabai suspected that her husband poisoned the child because it was a girl and that he was disappointed because he wanted a boy.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Narayan Barmani met Sheelabai and her parents.
Mr. Barmani said that an investigation has been started and the truth will be revealed soon.
