Wilson Garden police have arrested three men for allegedly robbing a 54-year-old man at knifepoint.
The accused have been identified as Vikram, 19, Saravana, 20, and Surya, 19. They were daily wage laborers and played musical instruments at weddings and funerals.
The incident took place near the Ayyappa temple in Shantinagar in the early hours of November 15. The victim, a car wash attendant, was returning home from work on his two-wheeler when the trio hit him. They robbed him of a mobile phone and a silver chain at knifepoint and fled the scene.
A suo motu inquiry was initiated by Inspector Farooq Pasha MG as the victim was initially afraid to file a complaint. Police analyzed footage from more than 300 CCTV cameras along the escape route before zeroing in on the suspects in Adugodi’s LR Nagar slum areas on Saturday.
Police tracked down the fleeing men using clues such as a distinctive white scarf worn by one of the accused and a reflective sticker on the jacket of the other.
Police said all three were drug addicts and Saravana had already registered a case of robbery against him in Adugodi. After the trio allegedly confessed to the crime and the stolen valuables were recovered, the police convinced the victim to file a formal complaint.
The accused were booked under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act and remanded in judicial custody.
