A well-planned Dasara boosts Mysuru tourism: Lakshman

KPCC spokesperson M. Lakshman on Sunday lauded the Mysuru district in-charge minister, senior officials and district employees for successfully organizing the recently concluded Dasara celebrations, saying the celebrations attracted a huge number of visitors, including dignitaries and prominent personalities.

“The city saw traffic of nearly six lakh vehicles from outside during the festivities,” he said.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Lakshman said that Dasara was organized in a well-planned manner under the leadership of Yathindra Siddaramaiah.

The district administration and police coordinated effectively to ensure smooth running of the festivities, barring a few incidents on Jamboo Savari day, he said.

Police effectively managed security arrangements for VVIPs and VIPs, including judges, ambassadors, chief ministers of neighboring states, elected representatives, senior bureaucrats, sportspersons, film personalities and other prominent visitors, he added.

Around 8,000 policemen along with eight IPS officers and senior officers from Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police and Superintendent of Police have been deployed for security and crowd management, he said.

Mr Lakshman slammed Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa for accusing the government of breaking protocol. He defended Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s wife’s participation in offering flowers during the Jamboo Savari, saying it was not a breach of protocol. He accused the MLA of making baseless allegations.

Mr. Lakshman said Dasara sent a positive message across the country and helped promote Mysuru as a tourist destination that generates tourism-related income. The government successfully organized the celebrations, but the opposition criticized it instead of recognizing the benefits of the celebrations, he said.

Mr. Lakshman said he had filed a complaint against the omission of the name of the in-charge minister of Mysuru district in the Dasara advertisement, which included a photograph of a Mysuru MP belonging to a different political party.
