A two-member committee appointed by the government to investigate the reasons behind the fire at Vetlapalem village in Kakinada district visited Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu on Monday.
The fire broke out on February 28 at Surya Sri Fire Works in Samalkot mandal of Kakinada district. As many as 27 people died and several workers were injured in the incident.
EAGLE Inspector General of Police Ake Ravi Krishna and Senior Director of Fire Services P. Venkata Ramana visited several firecracker manufacturing units at Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district.
Many firecracker manufacturing units follow Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization guidelines and adopt robust safety mechanisms, said Mr. Ravi Krishna.
The team interacted with officials from the revenue, fire, labour, factory inspectors and police departments, besides security officers and workers of some units, and observed the security measures being put in place.
The committee members said that a detailed report on the reasons behind the fire in Vetlapalam would be submitted soon.
