Shivamogga MP BY Raghavendra said education is not limited to textbooks or the four walls of a classroom.
The purpose of education was to make children think, question, imagine and develop skills to handle challenging situations, he said after inaugurating a two-day conference on education at Kumadvathi College of Education in Shikaripur on Friday.
Mr. Raghavendra emphasized the need for advancement in teaching methods with newer technologies and research findings. “Many have expressed concern that the rise of artificial intelligence could take away many jobs. However, no technology can replace teachers in classrooms,” he added.
Kuvempu University Vice-Chancellor Sharath Ananthamurthy, in his keynote address, said that the role of a teacher is to bring closer the expression of perfection that is already present in children as said by Swami Vivekananda. “Education is not about teaching but about guiding students to learn and think independently. Teachers must identify and nurture children’s innate human values like curiosity, reasoning and observation skills,” said Mr. Ananthamurthy.
Swami Vivekananda Vidya Samsthe President MB Shivakumar, Professor Kalaburagi Karnataka Central University GR Angadi, Principal Kumadvathi College GS Shivakumar and others were present.
