Shivamogg police arrested a 20 -year -old youth for accusing the murder of a girl aged 19 in Bhadravathi.
The accused, identified as Surya, comes from Yarehalli near Bhadravathi, and was accused of killing Mahalakshmi by the 21st September pushed it into the Bhadra Canal.
Surya also reportedly attempted to end her life later, after which he was admitted to the hospital in Shivamogg.
Police Hosamane in Bhadravathi received 22 September Missing complaints at Mahalakshmi. Her body was obtained from the channel the next day. Based on her parents’ statements, the police registered the case against Suryi and his parents.
They argued that Surya was harassed by Mahalakshmi, who studied at a college in Shivamogg, and repeatedly asked her to marry him. As she refused, he murdered her, Mahalakshmi’s parents said.
Shivamogga Superintendent of Police GK Mithun Kumar reported on Wednesday that the Bhadravathi police had registered the murder case and arrested the accused.
