A tripartite agreement between Kochi Corporation, the State Government and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) Kochi Rafinerie will soon be signed to operate the compressed biogas (CBG) in Brahmapuram, which is approaching completion.
The company has examined and cleaned the legal document prepared for signing. Of the two Biodiges in the CBG plant, one was fully built, while the other is likely to be completed soon.
There is a test run of the completed Biodigester, with a fed cow droppings for testing. The CBG plant is expected to be fully functional by the end of April, when biodegradable waste will be added to the composter to start gas production. According to the authorities, the gas will be supplied to BPCL via pipes.
“Although the race was to be completed in 18 months, we completed it six months before the plan. Even the hour was not wasted in the construction industry, thanks to the cooperation of the unions, Vadavucode-Puthencruz Panchayat and PV Sreenijin, MLA.
He added that the CBG plant will serve as a model similar to Indore. Initially, it will have the ability to treat 75 tons of biodegradable waste per day, which gradually increases to 150 tons.
Although the proposed plant is expected to meet the needs of waste management in neighboring local bodies in the future, it will be limited to the treatment of Kochi Corporation limits in its initial phase. Currently, the corporation generates more than 150 tonnes of waste a day.
The CBG plant, along with two black sewage treatment plants, is expected to meet the needs of the company’s waste. Although two plants powered by flushing black troops have a combined installed capacity of 100 tons, one currently works half a capacity and only processes 25 tons. It will soon be reduced up to 50 tons.
