A tearful Casemiro comforted by journalists after Brazil’s painful exit from the World Cup

Brazil midfielder Casemiro struggled to contain his emotions after the Selecao’s World Cup campaign came to a painful end on Sunday, breaking down during a post-match interview following the team’s 2-1 defeat by Norway in the round of 16.

The veteran midfielder was visibly emotional when speaking to CazeTV after the final whistle in New Jersey. As Casemiro tried to think about leaving Brazil, he paused repeatedly and his voice broke before covering his face. The reporters conducting the interview briefly stopped their questions and comforted the 34-year-old as he struggled to pull himself together.

Casemiro: “It’s difficult. I just want to be with my family. We did everything we could but we lost the dream, we disappointed all Brazilians.”

“It’s hard to find… to find words. I’m sorry,” Casemiro said. “It’s hard to find the words at the moment. It’s always been a dream to win the World Cup.”

An emotional exchange ensued Brazil suffered one of the biggest upsets of the tournament. A clinical brace from Erling Haaland gave Norway a historic 2-1 victory to send them into the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time as they knocked out the five-time champions.

Brazil created enough chances to take the game beyond the 90 minutes, but Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland repeatedly denied them as he put in an inspired performance. The experienced striker saved an early penalty from Bruno Guimaraes before making a series of crucial saves to thwart Brazil’s attack.

ANCELOTTI OFFERS BRAZIL TO MOVE FORWARD

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted the defeat was hard to take but backed his side to come out stronger.

“Everyone is deeply disappointed,” Ancelotti said. “I think we didn’t have a spectacular World Cup, but we played a good game and at some points we even deserved to win this game. This is a defeat and we have to continue our work and continue to improve. It’s not the end, it’s the beginning of a new cycle.”

Vinicius Junior said the result left the players devastated.

“It’s a very sad day for all of us. Being knocked out of the World Cup is always a huge blow,” he said
