A recent study conducted by the Center for Environmental Studies (CES) University of the University of Anna (CES) identified the use of outdated weaving conditions as the main cause of excessive noise pollution from the energy state industry in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu, a home of around 5.68 lakhs, has the highest concentration of power conditions among southern states. The study was commissioned by the Council for Control of Pollution Tamil Nadu (TNPCB) after the Suo Mot case initiated by the southern bench of the National Court Green Tribunal on the persistent noise pollution in Tharamaam in the Salem district.
The study recommends the transition to weavers without shuttles, along with sound measures to get the noise level to the permissible residential standards. TNPCB commissioned CES to identify the appropriate technology to alleviate the broth noise. The final report, submitted on November 19, 2024, was recently introduced to the parties to the parties organized by the TNPCB.
According to the report, the primary contributor is the mechanism of shuttle in conventional weavers to increased noise levels. CES recommends that they replace them with weaving weavers and installation of sound barriers made from transparent materials on doors and windows to reduce the surrounding noise at a distance of 6 meters to 7.5 meters from the weaving state. The study also raises concerns about the long -term exposure of a high level of decibels, often over the permissible working limits.
Despite health risks, many weaving operators remain about the long -term effect of noise exposure. Some have become anesthetic to noise, while others fear that the recognition of the problem can endanger their livelihood. The study requires mandatory use of personal protective devices, such as ears’ stoppers, along with programs raising awareness and common medical camps.
At a meeting of the parties to the Handlom Department, the Handlom Department would say that the immediate shift to the weaving of the weaving of the weaver would be impracticable and burdening a considerable burden for small weavers and government. To facilitate the gradual modernization, the representatives of Tamil Nadu nadu Small Industries proposed Corporation and Indian Development Bank for the development of small industries, combining government subsidies, long -term banking loans and partial contributions to entrepreneurs.
