A senior superintendent of GST was caught accepting a bribe of ₹8 crore in Bengaluru

A Chief Superintendent of GST (CGST) and a private individual were arrested by the Bengaluru city Lokayukta police on September 17 for allegedly demanding and taking a bribe of ₹8 to close a complaint against a city businessman.

The accused civil servant has been identified as Mohit Pratap Singh, Superintendent, CGST, South Division-4, South Commissionerate. The second accused is Salman Sheikh, a private individual who allegedly acted as an intermediary in the transaction.

According to the Lokayukta police, the duo allegedly demanded ₹8 lakh from Syed Zameer to close a complaint filed against him in connection with the ongoing Central GST matter.

Acting on Mr. Zameer’s complaint, the Bengaluru City Lokayukta team caught the duo accepting a bribe at the Superintendent’s chamber at Kendriya Sadan in Koramangala.

The Lokayukta police subsequently arrested both the accused. A case was registered under Section 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
