A 29-year-old scrap dealer was found dead in a parked auto-rickshaw at Gajanana Nagar in Hegganahalli on Monday under suspicious circumstances.
According to the police, Abdul Hussein, who owned a scrap yard in Byadarahalli, had allegedly gone to meet his girlfriend and had since gone offline.
A few hours later, the woman’s father called Abdul’s brother and informed him that Abdul had committed suicide and asked them to approach Gajanana Nagar. However, when Abdul’s relatives reached the spot, they found that the woman’s family members had allegedly placed Abdul’s body in an autorickshaw and fled the scene.
Abdul’s family later informed the Kamakshipalya police, who visited the crime scene and started an investigation. Although the woman’s family claims that Abdul died by suicide and that they were taking him to the hospital after taking him off the noose, Abdul’s relatives have accused them of murder.
The police prima facie suspect that it could be a suicide, but are gathering more evidence to confirm the cause of death. The body was taken for an autopsy.
A case of unnatural death has been registered at Kamakshipalya police station and police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death.
