A school principal in Bengaluru has been arrested under the Pocso Act after a minor student was found pregnant

The Srirampur police have arrested a 59-year-old principal of a government higher primary school in Bengaluru under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) 2012 for allegedly impregnating a minor student.

The accused have been identified as Chandraiah.

According to the police, the alleged abuse took place during the past year. The case came to light after it was discovered that the student was about one and a half months pregnant.

Based on a complaint filed by the girl’s family, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act, 2012 on May 22. The accused was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

Police said the victim was given medical attention and counseling support. Members of the Child Welfare Committee, Bengaluru North, temporarily shifted the girl to a government rehabilitation facility for care and protection.

Officials said the district’s child protection unit has also been instructed to coordinate with police to ensure appropriate support measures are in place for the child.
