The sanitation worker died and others reportedly fell ill after inhaling harmful gases, while on Sunday, April 20, septic tank in Shantinagar, Punganur.
The deceased was identified as Chaitanya (35) of Madanapalle in the district of Annamayya. Around noon he and his collaborator began to clean the overflowing septic tank in the apartment complex. According to sources, they both had no safety equipment.
When the duo did not come out of the tank, the locals warned the police and fire brigade. During the attempt to rescue, Chaitanya was found dead. The second worker was rescued and rushed to the government hospital in Madanapall, where his condition was considered critical. The Punganur Municipal Police registered the case and started an investigation.
